The original plan: Take 6-7 months off, rent out our apartment in Australia, and head to Europe to explore some places we have not yet seen. Because of the time and budget involved and the flexibility we wanted to have, travelling by motorhome made a lot of logical sense - on paper anyway.
We have never travelled for this long or by motorhome before!
Because of Schengen Agreement restrictions we are limited to 90 days in any 180 days in the Schengen countries, so we are going to do the trip in stages:
Stage 1 - 3 months travelling around parts of Europe
Stage 2 - 3 months in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland
Stage 3 - head home, or travel on...
Flights have been booked - we fly into Frankfurt on 28 May 2011, and we pick up our motorhome on 31 May. The next hard date is 24 August, when we return the motorhome, and fly over to London to start phase 2 in the UK.
The Motorhome has been booked - a Group E1 Comfort Cruiser supplied by DRM out of Frankfurt, which we booked through the team at Ideamerge.
As you can see it is not the smallest motorhome out there, but we were keen to have comfort and space - probably our first motorhome virgin mistake!
So the plan is to post updates here of our travels and tribulations.
Dear Sylvianne and Bill ...Had a great laugh this morning reading your Blog. Coffee and walks! Looking forward to your next installment. Vanessa
